A True Crime book cover design concept for a book that documents an horrific crime that took place in Indiana. The bodies of Abigail Williams and Liberty German were found in February, 2017 in the town of Delphi.
The details of the case have been carefully documented by Nic Edwards.
The cover design uses stock photography by Jack Cain that was digitally processed and paired with bold typography.
The original photograph was rotated to give a sense of unsettling disorientation, and reflect the landscape of the location where the documented crime took place.
The aim of this book cover design was to set the tone without misrepresenting it as a work of crime fiction. With true crime books, there is always a danger of sensationalising the case and turning it in to a form of entertainment but I think this book cover design balances the requirement to intrigue, attract and set an atmosphere while being sensitive to the nature of the book.
